Second assignment. Making Paragraphs Concise
1. It
has occurred to me that one of the most important subjects that we study in
school is mathematics. Although it is true that it is important to know how to
read, if we do not know how to do simple arithmetic when we do some everyday
kind of activity like go to the grocery store,we will not be able to keep track
of our finances. It is necessary for us understand things such as interest
rates on bank accounts and loans for houses or cars in order to keep track of
our personal account without going bankrupt. Many people are poor not because
they do not earn enough money, but because they don’t understand the
mathematics behind finances.
Beside the importance that
mathematics has in our finance lives, it is also important in many other parts
of our lives. There is the need that we have to measure and calculate numbers
when we cook, for example. In the kitchen, we have to know about mathematical
functions like fractions or multiplication. Sometimes we cut amounts in half
because viewer people are being cooked for or we have to double or triple
amounts if a lot of people are coming over to visit us for a special occasion.
Not being able to figure out the sums for cooking a cake could have final
result of a terrible tasting disaster.
Paragraphs
Concise :
Math
is the most important subject in the school, but we can deny that we also need
the basic of math for our daily life. Such as finances, so we would be
able to avoid some financial loss. We even need math in our kitchen to avoid
terrible tasting for our cook.
2. The
electric streetcar was popular among the people in cities in the United States
after 1880. when an engineer invented a cable that could run a wire overhead to
a streetcars electric engine. Because there was this overhead wire, it wasn’t
necessary to have a dangerous electric rail running along the street at ground
level, and this was a very important feature of the streetcars in those cities
that used them.
During the next 20 or 30
years or so, for 1880 onwards, the electric streetcars was very popular with
passengers in big cities all over the USA. It was not polluting, and it is was
very efficient, carrying large numbers of passengers without costing very much
money for the passengers. It was also profitable for the companies. However,
early in the next century, automobile manufacturers and other business interest
made an effort to get rid of all the streetcars. Eventually the situation was
that all the streetcars disappeared, and cars completely took over all the city
street.
